The number, 1489, emblazoned across the top of the label here is in reference to when the Baroncini family first planted their vines in San Gimignano, Tuscany, Italy.
Baroncini 1489 Chianti Riserva
This wine is all about the black fruits. 100% Sangiovese, the king of Tuscan grapes, gives a thick concentration of black cherry and blackcurrant on the nose. Take a sip and there’s some noticeable young cedar wood. Leave to breath for a while and those black fruits become evident on the palate. Lovely juicy acidity, good long length with some heat on the back of the throat.
The fruit for this wine was originally destined for Baroncini’s top wine but due to some financial issues the grapes were relegated to this label in order to help generate some income. So, in essence, we have a premium wine at an entry level price. Bargain!!
