Mmmmmm. I walked into my store today, after waiting a couple of days to sample this wine, with great anticipation over how this wine would taste. I cracked it open with one of my customers, who is a bit of a Pinot fan, and waited for his reaction. Short pause….then a beaming smile. He then preceded to give me his verdict. In short, bloody good.
This is a wine that you can enjoy now but has some good ageing potential. It has so many degrees to tempt your palate. First the spice and pepper kicks in, result of time spent in barrel, followed by the fruit. As you swallow, the fruit nicely dissipates to leave some earthy, vegetal notes. When you think that is it, which is a lot, a brief sense of chocolate jumps up and lingers at the back of your mouth.
I really enjoyed this wine, as well as my customers. I think this will be finding its way on to our shelves.
